4 Steps to Combating Greasy Heel!!
Step 1:
Gently scrub the area with a medicated, antibacterial/anti-fungal wash. Let the wash soak for about ten minutes so it can kill the fungus and bacteria that cause the infection and to soften the scabs.
Step 2:
Gently remove as many of the loose scabs as you can as the fungus and bacteria hide underneath. This can be very painful so be careful. Only remove what you can easily, you do not want to make them bleed as this can make the infection worse and take longer to heal.
Step 3:
Rinse off all wash and gently pat dry area thoroughly with a clean soft cloth.
Step 4:
Apply White Healer liberally to the affected area. Keep the area dry and reapply cream every day until it is completely healed.
RANVET’S TOP TIP: If your horse is suffering from particularly bad Greasy Heal you can apply Yellow Lotion and bandage for two days. The Yellow Lotion will penetrate the scab and soften the sores so they can be easily removed. You can then repeat steps 3 and 4.
